ABOUT KIRTADS
KIRTADS is a government organization under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Development Ministry and functions as a separate Directorate. Its main objective is to carry out research that helps to promote development among the Scheduled Communities in Kerala. It also attempts to identify the needs and problems confronting the marginalized section of the population and suggest recommendations to the Government in finding a panacea for their overall development. This was established in the year 1970 as Tribal Research and Training Centre (TR & TC) in a national pattern, which is subsequently got recognized as KIRTADS in 1979 and is working among all the scheduled communities for their development.


Vision
“To establish as a think tank for policy level decision pertaining to the Research and Development of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes of Kerala. Preservation and Promotion of their Cultural uniqueness and wisdom for the sustainable and inclusive advancement of the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes people of india in tune with the contemporary life situations through various research activities , evaluation studies , training programmes and stopping the infiltration of in-eligible persons in to the SC/ST fold”
Mission
Committed to provide academic and professional support and guidance in various matters pertaining to scheduled communities of the state with special focus on their evidence based planning, management, administration and appropriate legislations, Act as a store-house of ideas and information on research studies, extension, development initiatives, and policy decisions for the welfare of marginalized sections of the society, conduct evaluation studies on various development schemes of the scheduled tribe development department, local self government and other agencies, capacity building of Tribals and Persions/ institutions associated with tribal affairs, dissemination of information and creation of awareness, protect the constitutional rights of the SC/ST claims as per ‘The Kerala (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) Regulation of issue of community certificate Act , 1996, organize teaining programmes, events, workshops, seminars and other activities of national/ international level for the sustainable development of the scheduled communities of the state, undertake activities for the protection and promotion of the traditional knowledge, art forms and culture of the scheduled communities of the state through inclusive development.
